Army debunked blockage of Maiduguri-Damaturu road

The Nigerian Army has allayed the fears of commuters and motorists plying the Maiduguri – Damaturu road over false and mischievous rumour that Boko Haram insurgents have blocked the road on Friday 7 February 2020 thereby making road users to scamper for safety.
Fake news of the alleged blockade was circulated on the social media on Friday which came to many motorists as a surprise especially when some of us journalists are in Maiduguri on a tour to have a first hand information of the state of security situation in the state and had time to ply the road while visiting Auno and Jakana military bases without witnessing any incident or road blockade. Motorists in large numbers were seen plying the road without any security breach.
When contacted on the allegation, the Acting Director Army Public Relations Colonel Sagir Musa said “this is another round of fake news and mischief, we are use to it for sometimes now. There is no blockade of any road in Borno State on Friday as claimed. You have seen that soldiers are on the road, some on check points and others on mobile patrol to ensure security. No such incident is witnessed or reported”.
