The Kaduna State Government has commenced the clearance and evacuation of accumulated waste from a long-abandoned site in Badarawa/Malali Ward of Kaduna North Local Government Area, following years of neglect.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, inspected the ongoing exercise at the site, which residents said had remained neglected for more than two decades.
The clearance, being undertaken by Operation TSAFTA, is part of the state government’s efforts to restore environmental cleanliness and improve the living conditions of residents across the Kaduna metropolis.
Speaking during the inspection, the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the progress of the exercise and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges affecting communities within the state.
He said the administration of Governor Uba Sani was determined to ensure that abandoned and unhygienic sites were gradually cleared and transformed into safer and healthier environments for residents.
The intervention is expected to reduce the accumulation of refuse at the site, which had reportedly become a source of concern to residents and posed environmental and public health risks to the surrounding community.
The exercise also underscores the state government’s broader emphasis on maintaining cleaner communities through coordinated sanitation efforts and effective waste management.
Residents of Badarawa/Malali Ward are expected to benefit from the intervention as the evacuation of the accumulated waste progresses, with the government urging communities to support efforts aimed at sustaining the cleanliness of the environment after the exercise.
