A prominent administrator in Plateau State and former Permanent Secretary, Government House Administration, Sunday Garba Biggs, has declared his intention to run for the governorship position of the state.
Biggs who contended for the APC gubernatorial ticket in 2023 is a close alley of the former governor and senator representing Plateau South Senatorial Zone, Simon Lalong.
Biggs dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Precisely, on the 21st of April 2026, Biggs formally wrote his letter of resignation to the APC Chairman Mangu Ward II in Mangu LGA where he hailed from, and on the 29th of April, he declared his intentions to contest for the governorship position yesterday at the PDP office in Mangu where party supporters were gathered in their numbers.
The current governor, Caleb Mutfwang, of the APC who will also be running come 2027 is also from Mangu, and in his address, Biggs vowed to run against anyone irrespective of affinity, position or party.
Biggs stressed that anyone who understands the trajectory of Plateau politics will know that ‘godfathersim’ or positions don’t guarantee governorship election victory, saying that it is Plateau electorates that uniformly decides who to vote for on the basis of Plateau philosophy.
He assured the people that the PDP would bounce back from its challenges and retake power in the state in 2027, adding that PDP is the PDP is the party that aligns with Plateau political ideology, and that any prominent politician in the state today emanated from PDP.
“Today, I formally declare my aspiration to contest for the office of the Governor of Plateau State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.
“This decision is not driven by personal ambition alone, but by a sincere desire to serve, to restore hope, and to build a future that reflects the true potential of our dear state.
“Having recently joined this great party, I am inspired by its enduring commitment to democracy, inclusiveness, and people-centered governance.
“Plateau State is blessed beyond measure. We are endowed with rich natural resources, fertile lands, vibrant cultures, and above all, a resilient and hardworking people.
“Yet, we must speak honestly: our state has not fully realized its potential. Many of our people continue to face economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure. This is not the Plateau of our dreams.
“We cannot afford to remain where we are. The time has come for a new direction—one that prioritizes the welfare of our people, strengthens our institutions, and unlocks opportunities for all,” he said.
He called on Plateau citizens regardless of political affiliation, to join his movement for change, progress, and renewed hope, adding that he has seen and engaged at the highest level of governance and clearly understand what Plateau needs to become the true home of peace and tourism.
