In line with Governor Uba Sani’s administration’s commitment to promoting a healthier and drug-free Kaduna State, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has entered into a strategic partnership with the Kaduna State Bureau for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment (KADBUSA) to strengthen the ongoing fight against drug and substance abuse across the 23 local government areas of the state.
The initiative, championed by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, seeks to intensify awareness campaigns, rehabilitation efforts, and community-based sensitization programmes, particularly targeting vulnerable groups such as youths and women.
As part of the partnership, the Ministry donated medical consumables and drugs worth over ₦50 million to KADBUSA. The gesture is aimed at boosting the agency’s operational capacity and supporting its grassroots outreach programmes focused on prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Speaking during the presentation, the Director-General of KADBUSA, Dr. Joseph Ike commended the Ministry for its timely intervention and consistent support.
He described the donation as a significant step towards achieving Governor Uba Sani’s vision of a state free from the scourge of drug abuse and its attendant social consequences.
He noted that the collaboration would enhance coordination among local government structures, health workers, and community leaders, ensuring that anti-drug messages reach every household and that victims of substance abuse have access to care and recovery services.
Dr Ike used the opportunity to informed the public that, they excited to announce that KADBUSA has officially been renamed Kaduna State Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency (KADSAMHSA).
In his remarks, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering resolve to partner with all relevant agencies to safeguard the health and wellbeing of citizens.
He emphasized that the war against drug abuse must be fought collectively through prevention, education, and effective rehabilitation.
The Commissioner further praised Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and policy direction, which, he said, has prioritized youth empowerment, mental health, and community safety as key pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda in Kaduna State.
He assured that the Ministry of Local Government Affairs will continue to support KADBUSA and other stakeholders in ensuring that every community in Kaduna remains a safe, productive, and drug-free environment.
