The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, has honoured the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, with the Outstanding Performing Commissioner Award for 2025, in recognition of his exceptional service delivery, reforms in local governance, and unwavering loyalty to the administration of Governor Uba Sani.

The award was presented during the NUJ’s annual programme in Kaduna, attended by senior government officials, media executives, traditional rulers, and civil society stakeholders.

The NUJ said the recognition followed an objective assessment of commissioners’ performances across ministries, departments and agencies in the state.

Presenting the award, the NUJ President described Mamman Lagos as “a bridge-builder between government and the grassroots,” noting that his leadership has brought renewed transparency, accountability and efficiency to the local government system.

Since his appointment, Mamman Lagos has spearheaded far-reaching reforms aimed at strengthening local government administration. These include regular and transparent JAAC technical sessions, improved fiscal discipline, capacity-building programmes for council officials, and closer monitoring of funds to ensure projects directly impact citizens at the ward and community levels.

Under his stewardship, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has also deepened collaboration with anti-corruption agencies and development partners, while promoting peace and harmony in chieftaincy matters across the state.

The NUJ further commended the Commissioner for his steadfast loyalty and alignment with Governor Uba Sani’s people-centred agenda, describing him as one of the strongest drivers of the governor’s vision of inclusive governance, peace, and sustainable development.

His consistent defence and articulation of government policies, the union noted, have helped build public confidence and strengthen state media relations.

In his response, Mamman Lagos dedicated the award to Governor Uba Sani, members of the Kaduna State Executive Council, and staff of the ministry, saying the recognition would spur him to do more.

“This honour belongs to His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, whose leadership, guidance and trust have enabled us to serve. It is also for the hardworking team in the ministry and the local government councils who share the same commitment to transparency and service,” he said.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the governor and pledged to continue working tirelessly to ensure that local governments remain effective engines of development and democracy.

The award, observers say, further cements Sadiq Mamman Lagos’ reputation as one of the most impactful commissioners in the Uba Sani administration and a key figure in Kaduna State’s governance reform journey.
