The Berom in Diaspora Coalition (BDC) from the Western parts of Canada, America, Southern American countries, UK, Europe, Russia, Asian countries of China, Vietnam, Australia, South Africa, Kenya and other parts of Africa have raised alarm over the continuing killings in Plateau State despite the recent designation of Nigeria as a Country Particular Concern (CPC).
The designation of the country as CPC followed the genocide claim by Christians which got the attention of the USA Senate as well as President Donald Trump who has threatened that if the killings does not stop the USA will invade the country to kill the perpetrators.
Despite the threat from USA, the coalition has raised alarm that killings are still going on, and they made this known yesterday at a World Press Conference in Jos the Plateau State capital in conjunction with the BECO, BYM, BEWDA and BEC.
Speaking at the press conference, the representatives of the coalition, Barry Dazhi, called on the Nigerian government declare the suspected armed and killer Fulani herdsmen/bandits perpetrating the atrocities as Terrorists, and also carry out military operation on all of them.
Dazhi said in order to ensure justice is served, and in delivering humanitarian assistance for displaced persons and victims’ families, including medical aid, shelter, and relief materials, the ₦10b once disclosed by the former vice President Yemi Osinbajo, must equally be released and shared to these families.
Furthermore, he called on the government ensure that their ancestral lands ceased by the terrorists are returned to the rightful victims/owners.
“We demand the prosecution of all those responsible, no matter how highly placed, in order to end the culture of impunity that fuels these atrocities.
“There should also be the implementation of long-term peace and security measures, including community-based policing, early warning systems, and dialogue mechanisms that respect local land rights, cultures and traditions.
“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should to rise to the occasion and protect every Nigerian life, and the National Assembly should hold public hearings and pass stronger legislation to curb rural terrorism.
“The international community, including the United Nations, African Union and ECOWAS should take note of these crimes and support peace efforts in Plateau State, and the media should continue to shine light on the truth and give voice to the voiceless victims of these attacks,” he said.
He called on the government to put an end to the obvious activities of pampers killers and punishes victims, adding that Nigerians should team up and confront this dare devil of the killer Fulani terrorists.
“This is not about religion anymore, it is about conscience. If Christians are killed, speak up. If Muslims are killed, speak up. If anyone is killed, speak up but stop silencing others for speaking.
“When truth becomes tribal and justice becomes selective, what remains is not a country it’s a graveyard with a flag,” he added.
