NDA ‘Green Project’ Flags – Off Planting of 10,000 Trees

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has flagged off of tree planting of 10,000 variety of trees on its main campuses at Afaka to serve as areas for both academics and military training of cadets.

The Commandant of NDA, Major General Jamil Sarham made the disclosure on Friday in Kaduna during the flag off of the ‘NDA Green Project’ to also contribute to the health of the Academy community.

He explained that the idea of the green project was borne out of the desire to have a secured and healthy environment.

” Today’s tree planting is the first phase of tree planting exercise in NDA and this involve planting of over Ten thousand (10,000) trees covering all the classes of trees.

” The 10, 000 tree seedlings were purchased from the College of Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria and shared to all departments  and would be planted on the space of land recently cleared by the academy”, he stated.

General Sarham, went further to say that, the Ministry of Environment has graciously pledged to support the Nigerian Defence Academy with One hundred thousand trees, as the trees include fruit orchards, shade/hedge plants and economic trees.

According to him, trees and forest play an essential role in mitigating the impact of climate change.

” Planting of trees is one of the most important things we can do to contribute to the health of the Academy community. 

” The forested parts could also serve as good areas for both academics and military training of cadets, I urged everybody to put in maximum interest in this exercise and also take the maintenance of these trees very serious”, Gen. Sarham advised.
