The Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, has rewarded Islamic scholars and teachers who supported the victory of Governor Uba Sani in the 2023 general elections with a donation of ₦10 million and bags of rice.
The gesture was announced during a strategic engagement held with female Islammiyya teachers, Ulama, members of Ihya’ussunnah and other Islamic clerics who played active roles in mobilising grassroots support ahead of the polls.
The meeting, which took place amid renewed political consultations in the state, revisited an earlier gathering in January 2023 at the commissioner’s residence in Marafa, where the scholars met with Governor Uba Sani, then a senatorial candidate and pledged their commitment to his electoral success.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Mamman Lagos commended the religious leaders for standing by their words, noting that their mobilisation efforts contributed significantly to the victory recorded at the polls.
He described the intervention as a fulfilment of promises made during the campaign period.
According to him, the ₦10 million cash support and distribution of food items were provided on behalf of Governor Uba Sani as a token of appreciation for their dedication and loyalty to the administration.
He added that the gesture aligns with the governor’s pro-people policy and inclusive style of governance, which, he said, recognises the role of community leaders in strengthening democratic processes.
Mamman Lagos urged the beneficiaries to continue praying for the peace, stability and development of Kaduna State, stressing that the present administration remains committed to delivering dividends of democracy across all sectors.
Responding on behalf of the Ulama, their leader, Malam Muhammadu, expressed appreciation to the commissioner and Governor Uba Sani for what he described as a rare show of gratitude and recognition.
He affirmed that the scholars would sustain their support for the government, adding that they remain committed to promoting unity and good governance within their communities.
The clerics also pledged continued loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and assured the administration of their readiness to mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
