Hajiya Hafsat Yusuf Paki, Director of Media and Publicity to the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, has flagged off an empowerment programme for less-privileged women in Paki Ward of Ikara Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
The programme, held earlier on [day], targeted about 50 women who received financial support aimed at enabling them to start small-scale businesses and become economically self-reliant.
Speaking at the flag-off, Hajiya Hafsat Paki said the initiative was designed to uplift women at the grassroots by providing them with the means to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.
She explained that empowering women economically remains one of the most effective strategies for tackling poverty and strengthening social stability at the local level.
According to her, the programme aligns with the women-inclusive political and development agenda of Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, which prioritises women’s participation in governance and socio-economic activities.
Hajiya Hafsat noted that the intervention was not a one-off gesture but part of a broader effort to ensure that women, particularly those at the grassroots, are not left behind in the state’s development process.
She added that the empowerment scheme enjoyed the full support and approval of the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, whom she described as a strong advocate of inclusive governance.
The commissioner, she said, remains committed to policies and initiatives that promote sustainable community development through targeted interventions at the ward and local government levels.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, while pledging to make judicious use of the funds to improve their livelihoods and support their households.
