Covid19 : AGN Vice President Mobilizes Funds To Help The Needy

Vice President, Actors Guild of Nigeria. (AGN) Waziri Salisu Shuaibu. (WASSH) has mobilized funds to assist the needy particularly less privileged Nigerians who could not afford three daily square meals due to the Covid-19 lockdown across Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna after supervising distribution of food items to a Section of Kaduna Residents, WASSH said he decided to mobilize his colleagues in Nigerian Film Industry to assist the needy who , due to the Covid-19 lockdown had been made vulnerable to hunger and poverty , adding that helping such people in need would go a long way in keeping them at home and reducing spread of the virus among Nigerians.

He mentioned that he had been able to assist thousands of households with food items and beverages from contributions made by generous individuals who he said wouldn’t want their names in print due to their religious injuctions which forbid believers from advertising their good deeds.

” It was a project I felt could make some impacts in reducing hardship on households caused as a result of the lockdown to checkmate spread of the virus.

” Myself and few friends taxed ourselves and raised some reasonable amounts with which we bought hand sanitizers and some basic food items for onward distribution to the target beneficiaries after they had been identified using transparent ways in order to ensure effectiveness and achieve over all objective and aims of the project which is as I mentioned getting palliatives to doorsteps of the needy.

” We couldn’t do it alone because in the process of carrying out this assignment, we discovered more and more people who needed help beyond our earlier estimate and assessment.

” I had to get across to my colleagues in film industry and notable politicians who were willing to support our cause. By God’s grace the response has been wonderful as more and more people have pledged to partner with us through different volunteer groups to make sure poor Nigerians who have been made more vulnerable due to the lockdown don’t lack food and other essentials, ” he said.

Wassh, who is also Chairman of Arewa Film Makers Association of Nigeria challenged other personalities in other industries to as a matter of urgency roll out their contributions toward assisting needy Nigerians at this challenging time of Covid19 lockdown.
