COVID-19: National Volunteer Group Mourns Abba Kyari

By Amos Mathew, Kaduna

The National Volunteer Group (NVG) on COVID19 has described as shocking and sad the passing away of the Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari.
The Group sympathizes with President Muhammadu Buhari on the loss of his friend and colleague as it also extend prayers and heartfelt condolences to the immediate and remote family members of Mallam Abba Kyari.
It was made known in a statement issued and signed by Mallam Yusuf Idris Amoke, the National Coordinator, National Volunteer Group on COVID-19.
“The demise of such a stabilizing force at this critical phase where Nigeria is faced with a national health emergency is both a huge loss to the Federal Government and the entire Nation. “Mallam Abba Kyari was known for acts of charity to the less privileged. In honour of his deligence and service we call on Nigerians to care for one another during these difficult times. We encourage citizens who have the means to extend philanthropic relief to the poor even as the Federal Government rolls out its palliative measures. We believe that we will only be able to overcome the impact and side effects of this pandemic if we support each other through these trying times”, it stated.
According to the statement, the National Volunteer Group commends the proactive steps taken by the Presidential Task Force on COVID19 under the leadership of the Secretary to the State Government.
“We urge the Presidential Task Force on COVID19 to explore partnerships with non-governmental organisations, civil society groups, and ad-hoc volunteer groups to build a critical mass that will make the prevention advocacy campaign more effective. Also, we use this opportunity to urge the Federal Government to look inwards and explore local options for mass production of face masks, hand sanitizers, and other health essentials. “We urge citizens to abide by the directives of the Federal Government and the front-line experts led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The policies that have been put in place may appear extreme, yet they represent our only chance to prevent the spread of COVID19 and save as many lives as possible”. It also advised the general public to maintain social distance, hygiene protocols. Stay safe. Stay home
