The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has presented a Certificate of Return to its Zamfara State governorship candidate, Eng. Ibrahim Shehu Bakauye, formally affirming him as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
The certificate was presented by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) during a series of meetings at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, held alongside the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and the inauguration of the party’s leadership for the 2026–2030 term.
The event was presided over by the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, whose leadership was recently affirmed following a Supreme Court judgment and recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party also presented certificates to its governorship candidates whose nominations have been duly processed for the 2027 elections.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Bakauye described the exercise as a reflection of the party’s commitment to internal democracy and commended the national leadership for reconciling aggrieved members and strengthening unity within the PDP.
He urged the Zamfara State chapter of the party to intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter education, saying members should enlighten residents on the party’s renewed stability following the resolution of its leadership dispute.
Bakauye expressed confidence that the PDP would regain power in Zamfara, arguing that the party’s developmental record and achievements while in government continue to resonate with the electorate.
He also called on party members to remain united and focused ahead of the governorship election, stressing that cohesion would be critical to the party’s success at the polls.
The ceremony attracted party leaders, stakeholders and supporters from Zamfara and other states, with attendees expressing confidence in the party’s prospects in the state.
With the presentation of the Certificate of Return, the PDP has effectively laid to rest any speculation over its Zamfara governorship ticket, paving the way for Bakauye to commence full-scale consultations and campaigns centred on security, economic development, education and healthcare.
