The Kaduna State Government has said that achieving food security and restoring public trust in governance largely depend on effective and strategic communication of policies and programmes.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman Lagos, who represented Governor Uba Sani at the Kaduna State Traditional Rulers Strategic Forum during the 2026 Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Week, said communication gaps often undermine well-intentioned government initiatives.
He explained that policies do not fail solely due to poor design but because citizens are not adequately informed or engaged in ways that reflect their realities.
According to him, strategic communication serves as a bridge between government actions and citizens’ expectations, fostering participation, transparency and trust.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government is strengthening collaboration with local governments, traditional rulers and media platforms to improve the flow of information and ensure that policies translate into tangible benefits at the grassroots.
He added that the approach is critical to addressing socio-economic challenges, particularly in enhancing food security and stabilising communities.
Sadiq Mamman Lagos further said the government remains committed to inclusive governance by involving traditional institutions in conflict resolution, community mobilisation and intelligence gathering.
Other stakeholders at the forum stressed the importance of peace as a prerequisite for development, noting that insecurity continues to disrupt livelihoods and limit access to farmlands.
They also called for stronger partnerships between government and community leaders to address emerging challenges and promote sustainable development.
The event formed part of activities marking NIPR Week 2026, with participants advocating improved communication strategies as a tool for national growth and social stability.
