The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, on Thursday chaired the plenary session of the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting for February 2026, urging local government chairmen to ensure prudent and transparent use of public funds.
The meeting, held at the Sen. Uba Sani Conference Hall at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Kaduna, brought together key stakeholders involved in the management and distribution of local government allocations.
Speaking during the session, Dr. Balarabe stressed the importance of accountability in the management of funds allocated to local governments, noting that resources must be channelled toward projects and programmes that directly impact the lives of the people at the grassroots.
She advised the 23 local government chairmen in the state to utilise their allocations judiciously, emphasizing that responsible financial management would enhance development and service delivery across communities.
The deputy governor also reiterated the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to strengthening transparency and efficiency in the administration of local government finances.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Sadiq Mamman Lagos, called on council leaders to prioritise developmental projects that address the needs of their respective communities.
Mamman Lagos noted that effective utilisation of the funds would accelerate development at the grassroots and support the state government’s broader agenda of inclusive growth.
Those in attendance at the meeting included the chairmen of the 23 local government councils and their deputies, as well as directors of finance and budget from the councils.
Representatives from key agencies such as the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board, Kaduna State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, the Office of the Accountant General of Kaduna State, the Federal Pay Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, the Primary Health Care Board, Pension Board and the Local Government Service Board were also present.
