The Kaduna State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in partnership with AL-Nameer Ideal Concept Ltd and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has commenced a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at improving transparency and accountability across the state’s 23 local government areas.
Speaking at the opening session, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Affairs Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, said accountability remains the backbone of good governance and the foundation upon which public trust is built.
He stated that no meaningful development can take place in any community without transparency in the management of public resources.
Hon. Mamman Lagos noted that the workshop aligns strongly with the governance philosophy of the Kaduna State Governor, Sen. (Dr.) Uba Sani, who has consistently championed fiscal discipline, prudent resource management and a zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
He stressed that the governor’s commitment to responsible leadership has set a new benchmark for accountability in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the training is designed to strengthen the capacities of local government chairmen, directors and key administrators to ensure that public funds are used strictly for the benefit of communities.
He emphasized that local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people, making accountability even more critical.
He added that the workshop aims to empower participants with practical knowledge on ethical governance, financial reporting, record management and compliance with extant regulations guiding the use of public funds.
This, he said, will ensure that decisions taken at the local government level lead to sustainable development outcomes.
Representatives of ICPC at the event commended the Kaduna State Government for taking proactive steps to institutionalize accountability across all tiers of governance.
They stressed that strengthening internal control systems remains one of the most effective ways to prevent corruption before it occurs.
AL-Nameer Ideal Concept Ltd, co-organizers of the programme, noted that the training was carefully designed to address existing gaps in local government administration and reinforce the principles of transparency, responsibility and ethical leadership among public officials.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially at a time when public scrutiny and demands for responsible governance are increasing across the country.
The workshop is expected to produce an accountability framework that will guide local government operations going forward, ensuring that Kaduna State continues to lead in transparency, responsible governance and people-centered development.
