The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Kaduna State, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, has commended Governor Uba Sani for giving local government chairmen the opportunity to experience a new model of modern leadership through an international exposure programme.
Hon. Lagos led a delegation of council chairmen on an Executive Diplomatic Programme to the United Kingdom, designed to deepen their understanding of global governance standards.
The programme, themed “Advancing Local Governance, Global Best Practices, and Digital Transformation,” focused on equipping the chairmen with contemporary skills needed to strengthen grassroots administration.
He explained that the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to reposition local governments in Kaduna State for improved transparency, accountability and service delivery.
According to the commissioner, Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to reforming the local government system made the foreign study tour possible, noting that such exposure is essential for the transformation of governance at the grassroots.
He added that the training covered modules on digital tools for public service delivery, modern administrative techniques, and citizen-focused governance approaches widely adopted across developed nations.
Hon. Lagos said the programme would have direct impact on the effectiveness of council chairmen, especially in deploying technology, strengthening financial discipline and improving community engagement.
He noted that the opportunity had broadened the perspectives of the chairmen, enabling them to appreciate how international best practices can be adapted to local realities in Kaduna State.
The commissioner further highlighted several reforms already introduced in his ministry, including stricter financial accountability systems and continuous capacity development for local government staff.
He also cited the ongoing modernization of chieftaincy affairs as part of the broader efforts to ensure efficiency, inclusiveness and institutional professionalism at the grassroots.
Hon. Lagos expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for prioritising the development of local government leaders, stressing that the administration’s reforms are laying a solid foundation for sustainable governance across Kaduna State.
