2023: KAPECOM Commends Kaduna Residents For Peaceful Conduct Of Election

The Kaduna State Peace Commission (KAPECOM) and the 2023 Peaceful Elections Monitoring Committee has commended the citizens of the State for their maturity and peaceful conduct during the general elections.
The Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Saleh Momale, made it known to Journalists in a press conference on Friday in Kaduna, saying the commission is impressed with the attitude displayed by the electorates during and after election.
According to him, “based on the reports from polling units and collation centres, the conduct of the elections on 18th March 2023 throughout Kaduna State was generally peaceful. We wishes to convey  appreciation for peaceful conduct of the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly Elections”.
“Similarly, priority was accorded to the elderly, nursing mothers and people with
disability at the polling units, which is highly commendable.
“Additionally, the people of the State remained calm and peaceful throughout the collation process at all levels resulting to declaration of the election results for the Governorship and
most of the House of Assembly constituencies”.
“We note that there are few House
of Assembly Constituencies to be concluded, urging citizens to ensure that the bye-elections are also conducted peacefully.
“We are strongly appealing to political parties, the electoral bodies, the media and other stakeholders to refrain from incitements, provocation and exploiting existing ethno-religious divides in political discourse and campaigns. Political campaigns should be guided by the provisions of the relevant legislations and guidelines”.
“Campaigns should be issue based
reflecting the needs of the society rather than primordial sentiments”.
“There is also the need to continue to strengthen voter education, mobilisation and sensitisation of the populace to deepen democracy and good democratic culture in the country”.
