The Senator Uba Sani Support Group (SUSSG) has reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising voters across Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the official flag-off of the 122-kilometre Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road project by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Director-General of SUSSG and Kaduna State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, described the commencement of the road project as a historic milestone that demonstrates President Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises made to Nigerians.
Speaking after the event, Mamman Lagos said members of the support group turned out in large numbers from across the state to add colour to the presidential visit, describing the massive attendance as a reflection of the confidence Kaduna people have in the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani.
He commended Governor Uba Sani for consistently placing the welfare and interests of Kaduna citizens above every other consideration, saying the governor’s inclusive leadership has attracted unprecedented federal projects to the state.
The commissioner also praised President Tinubu for redeeming the promise he made during the 2022 presidential campaign to reconstruct the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road, describing the project as a fulfilment of a pledge that many residents had waited decades to witness.
Represented at the ceremony by Governor Uba Sani, President Tinubu recalled that on December 22, 2022, he visited Birnin Gwari despite security concerns at a time when the area was widely regarded as the epicentre of banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Governor Uba Sani recounted that the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was then the General Officer Commanding the One Mechanised Division, provided 21 armoured vehicles and military personnel to secure the campaign team’s journey to Birnin Gwari.
According to the governor, the poor state of the road meant the journey from Kaduna to Birnin Gwari took about four and a half hours, where Tinubu was later honoured with a traditional title by the Emir of Birnin Gwari at the emir’s palace.
He said Tinubu had assured the people that if elected president, he would reconstruct the Mando–Birnin Gwari road and restore lasting peace and security to the area.
Governor Uba Sani noted that with the official commencement of the project, the president has fulfilled both promises by initiating the road construction and significantly improving security in Birnin Gwari, where residents can now travel without police escorts.
He explained that the N178 billion road project is of strategic national importance because it links the North-West to the South-West, passing through several states and boosting trade, economic activities and regional integration.
The governor also commended the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, describing him as a committed and patriotic public servant whose efforts were instrumental in securing approval for the project.
Mamman Lagos said the achievements of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani have strengthened the resolve of SUSSG to intensify grassroots mobilisation across the 255 wards and the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State ahead of the next general elections.
He added that the support group remains fully prepared to engage communities from ward to local government levels to ensure massive voter participation, expressing confidence that the performances of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani would earn them overwhelming support from the people of Kaduna State.
