Sadiq Mamman Lagos Hails Uba Sani as Kaduna Launches Operation TSAPTA

Kaduna State burst into colour and celebration at the weekend as residents, traditional leaders and stakeholders from across the 23 local government areas converged on Murtala Square for the formal launch of Operation TSAPTA, an ambitious environmental sanitation and job-creation initiative of the state government.

The atmosphere was festive as prominent Kaduna indigenes and visitors from neighbouring states gathered to witness what officials described as a clear demonstration of purposeful leadership and promises fulfilled under Governor Uba Sani’s administration.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, praised Governor Uba Sani for what he called “bold, people-centred leadership,” saying Operation TSAPTA reflects the governor’s commitment to practical governance that directly improves the lives of ordinary citizens.

Mamman Lagos described the initiative as a deliberate and structured response to the environmental and public health challenges confronting Kaduna State, particularly those arising from rapid urbanisation, population growth and expanding economic activities across communities.

“Governor Uba Sani understands that a clean environment is not a luxury but a necessity for public health, economic productivity and human dignity,” he said, adding that Operation TSAPTA was conceived to address long-standing sanitation gaps while creating economic opportunities for citizens.

According to him, the initiative is built on collaboration and shared responsibility, bringing together the 23 local government councils, the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources under a coordinated framework focused on efficiency, accountability and sustainability.

He explained that the first phase of Operation TSAPTA targets four local government areas facing acute environmental pressure, supported by the deployment of modern waste management tools such as Roro bins, dustbins, water tankers and protective equipment to enhance service delivery and safeguard sanitation workers.

Mamman Lagos revealed that over 5,000 women and young people have already been engaged under the programme, with plans to recruit an additional 7,000 beneficiaries in the coming months, describing it as a practical response to unemployment and social vulnerability.

“By empowering our youths and women with lawful means of livelihood, the governor is addressing environmental challenges and economic hardship at the same time,” he said, noting that environmental stewardship and economic inclusion must go hand in hand.

He added that Operation TSAPTA is a key pillar of Governor Uba Sani’s agenda for a cleaner, safer and healthier Kaduna, stressing that the programme goes beyond beautification to promote public hygiene and prevent disease outbreaks.

The Commissioner said the initiative would focus on intensive refuse clearing, enforcement of hygiene standards and sustained public sensitisation across the metropolis and other urban centres in the state.

He concluded that Operation TSAPTA demonstrates that effective governance is about foresight and action, expressing confidence that the programme would strengthen existing environmental efforts while reducing poverty and unemployment through locally driven job creation.

Observers at the event said the initiative signals a renewed determination by the Kaduna State Government to link environmental management with inclusive development and measurable impact on citizens’ lives.
