In effort to discharge his legislative oversight duties Chairman House Committee on Commerce Hon. Munir Ahmed and other members paid familiarization visits to agencies and organizations within his area of responsibility with aim of strengthening synergy to further the cause of the nation.
The agencies visited by Hon. Ahmed included; Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Financial Reporting Council (FRC), Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) among others.
At every point of call in the course of his visit, Hon, Ahmed stressed the need for innovation anchored on effective service delivery geared towards adding value on business and commerce for the overall growth and development of Nigeria’s economy.
The Lere federal legislator itemized six guiding components on which he said he would peg his oversight duties for effectiveness and thoroughness.
He listed excellent service delivery; capacity strengthening; business processing and formation; trust and enhanced stakeholders management; and promoting climate resilience and cause which he stated would go a long way in simplifying fundamentals of duties and responsibilities of the legislative oversight of his committee.
He charged the visited agencies to endeavour to uphold transparency in their dealings so the public would grow sustained confidence in civil servants and democratic institutions as a whole.
He expressed readiness of his committee to explore and enhance mutual and friendly synergy, capable of injecting new ideas inĀ business and commerce formation for growth and development of the Nation’s economy.
In his response, Executive Director CAC Hussaini Magaji while welcoming the oversight visit of the committee, said it was a routine exercise of a functional democracy system.
He stressed the imperative of checks and balance as a must for government agencies and parastatals to discharge their functions in the best interest of the country.
Magaji solicited the support and cooperation of the committee to enable the CAC overhaul and upgrade its registration portal for ease of doing business in Nigeria.
The CAC boss pointed out that an enduring synergy with the House Committee on Commerce was critical in enhancing growth, prosperity and development of Nigeria’s economy.
