The Coalition of Okpe Youth for Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege has endorsed the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, as its preferred candidate to represent Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The coordinator of the coalition, Comrade Ufuoma Victor Erharhine, disclosed this in a statement, saying the decision followed a careful assessment of Omo-Agege’s record in public service and his performance during his previous tenure as senator representing the district.
According to him, the youths of Okpe have decided to support Omo-Agege because of his proven legislative experience, leadership capacity and contributions to the development of Delta Central and beyond while in office.
Erharhine said the group was determined to keep tribal sentiments out of politics, stressing that the interest of the entire Delta Central Senatorial District should take precedence over considerations based on where political office holders come from.
He said, “We youths from Okpe have decided to support Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and keep tribal sentiments out of politics. What matters to us is competence, performance, fairness and the ability to provide effective representation for the people.”
The coalition also appealed to the state governor to provide a level playing field for all aspirants seeking the senatorial ticket, rather than openly or indirectly supporting one aspirant against another.
The youths argued that both the incumbent senator representing Delta Central and the governor are from Okpe, insisting that the political leadership should demonstrate fairness and justice by allowing the most competent candidate to emerge.
They maintained that Omo-Agege’s previous tenure provided a clear example of what effective representation should look like, noting that as a former Deputy President of the Senate, he played a significant role in legislative affairs and facilitated development beyond his immediate constituency.
The coalition criticised what it described as the poor performance of the incumbent senator, alleging that the senator had not made sufficient contributions to legislative activities or attracted meaningful development to the senatorial district compared with what was witnessed during Omo-Agege’s tenure.
The Okpe youths therefore called on the people of Delta Central to judge the aspirants based on their records, competence and capacity to deliver, rather than tribal or sectional considerations, declaring their support for Omo-Agege as their preferred candidate for the forthcoming senatorial contest.
