In an effort to curtail elections violence, a group under the aegis of Youth and Civil Society Coalition for Development (YCSCD) has vowed to take legal action against any person or group of persons who perpetrate any form of violence before, during and after the 2023 general elections.
National President of YCSCD, Comrade Aminu Aminu, made this known at the weekend in Jos the Plateau State capital, during the official unveiling of peace sensitization campaign titled ‘The Role of Youths in Maintaining Law and Order, Unity and Peaceful Coexistence in Nigeria’.
He said some persons are bent on threatening the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of Nigerians and they want to take advantage of the 2023 elections to perpetrate their nefarious act.
He said as agents of peace, it is high time to put an end to the activities of such scrupulous elements, because Nigeria is the only country they have and must do all it take to preserve and advance it.
“It would be recalled that President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration has been facing unnecessary interference and many people are doing all they could to bring his administration into disrepute. Their target also is to use the 2023 general elections to cause more harm, and they want to use the youths to achieve their aim.
“So we have come out en-masse to tell them that there is a legal and legitimate way where anyone with grievances can go about to ventilate his or her grievance or to seek redress. In this respect, we held solidarity rally on June 12, that is the democracy day, and we have been advancing our campaign.
“We have also look at the situation critically and observed that there is a need for us to go round the six geopolitical zones in the country to preach peace, unity, and advocate for law and order. An interesting hallmark of our activities is to take legal action against anyone perpetrating political violence before, during and after the 2023 election,” he said.
He urged the youths to give them maximum support and cooperation to actualize their mission for the good of all and sundry.
In his remarks, the director general of National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi, who was a keynote speaker, said youths represent the highest percentage of Nigeria population and that they contribute a lot to the socio-economic development of the country.
Hence, he said, it is imperative for the youths to engage in fruitful and meaningful ventures than to engage in political violence or allow themselves to be used as political thugs by politicians.
