COVID-19: National Volunteer Group Mourns Abba Kyari

By Amos Mathew, Kaduna

National Volunteer Group on Covid-19 has distributed Palliatives to Kaduna Residents to cushion the effects of lockdown imposed on the State to curtail spread of Coronavirus.
National Coordinator of the Group, Comrade Yusuf Idris Amoke said poverty had become more endemic than the most dreaded Virus of Covid-19 which according to him had left many households with virtually nothing to eat as they observed the stay-at-home order by Governments of various States.
He added that , he and individuals of like minds decided to form the National Volunteer Group on Covid-19 to compliment efforts of Federal Government and State Governments in sensitizing citizens on dangers of the virus and ways to stay healthy and also in  areas of Identifying the needy and most vulnerable in the society so they could benefit from palliatives.
Comrade Amoke challenged Governments at all levels to treat the outbreak with the seriousness they would treat election campaigns by going from door to door enlightenening Nigerians, distributing food and cash and asking people what their immediate needs were , with the sole aim of addressing them , which he said would boost up confidence of people to cooperate and adhere to rules and regulations put in place to fight spread of the virus.
He challenged well meaning Nigerians who could afford to spare something out of their savings to as a matter of exigency contribute to the Group for onward distribution to the needy .
” So far We have not gotten supports or partnership from Governments or corporate organizations in our efforts to alleviate sufferings caused as a result of this lockdown.
” We have been able to identify the most vulnerable and the needy ones who have been affected most by the lockdown. Each beneficiary here today will go home with rice, beans, beverages and millets courtesy of individuals who don’t want their names mentioned.
” We intend to use network of volunteers we have across 774 Local Government Areas across Nigeria to continue the process of Identifying and distributing Palliatives , non-stop until the end of this pandemic.
” Today , We are at U/Shanu, Abakpa, U / Kanawa Urban Areas of Kaduna Metropolis, next in line, will be other areas in Kaduna and other states of the Federation until we would have covered as many states and Local Government Areas as possible. ” Comrade Amoke said.
